Ovasitol Frequently Asked Questions
The most frequently asked Ovasitol questions for PCOS are answered here.
Ovasitol is a unique supplement for any woman with PCOS that combines myo- and d-chiro-inositol in the body’s naturally occurring ratio of 40 to 1. This ideal ratio has been shown to reduce insulin, regulate periods, restore hormone balance, and improve egg quality and ovulation. Many women who take Ovasitol report a significant reduction in carbohydrate cravings. Here are the answers to the most common Ovasitol questions for PCOS.
Ovasitol Question: What does Ovasitol taste like?
Ovasitol is a tasteless powder. Since everyone is different and has different tastebuds, it could vary. Some say it tastes a little sweet.
Can I take Ovasitol with Metformin? Does this replace Metformin or do I take it with?
Please ask your doctor or other healthcare provider about taking Ovasitol with Metformin, or taking Ovasitol instead of Metformin. Because both inositol and Metformin have been shown to affect insulin levels and restore ovulation, they may have additive effects. In one study comparing myo-inositol to Metformin, myo-inositol showed slightly better results for restoring ovulation and increasing pregnancy rates. You can take Ovasitol and Metformin at the same time. This article about taking the two together may be helpful.
Question: Can I take Ovasitol and other supplements?
Yes, Ovasitol is compatible with all the supplements sold in the PCOS Nutrition Center Store
Can Ovasitol be taken with prescription medications?
Yes, you can take Ovasitol along with most prescription medications. However, if you are considering using Ovasitol and take prescription medications, please consult your doctor prior to use.

What if I take Thyroid Medications?
Ovasitol has been shown to help improve thyroid signaling. Ovasitol can be taken if you also take a medication for your thyroid. However, they should be taken at different times. Thyroid medications are best taken on an empty stomach, first thing in the morning. Ovasitol should be taken with food, such as with breakfast.
Question: Can I take Ovasitol if breastfeeding?
Yes, Ovasitol can be taken while breastfeeding your baby. We still recommend talking with your doctor first.
Question: Can I take Ovasitol if pregnant?
Yes, Ovasitol can be taken throughout pregnancy. Taking inositol during pregnancy may be beneficial. Studies have shown that myo-inositol supplementation during pregnancy significantly reduces the risk of gestational diabetes.
I am in Menopause. Can Ovasitol help me?
Ovasitol is not just for folks wanting to conceive. Benefits of Ovasitol include improving insulin and thyroid function, boosting mood, and curbing carb cravings. You can take our supplement quiz and see if it’s recommended based on your unique symptoms.
Question: Is Ovasitol available in Canada?
Yes, Ovasitol is available for FREE shipping to Canada. To order Ovasitol, click here
I live outside of the United States and Canada. How can I get Ovasitol?
Sorry, We cannot ship outside of the U.S. and Canada.
How long does it take to receive my order?
Your initial order of Ovasitol should arrive within a week if shipped within the US. Orders to Canada may take 2 weeks.
Will Ovasitol help me regulate my periods?
Yes, studies show that inositol helps regulate a woman’s menstrual cycle (period), and restore normal ovulation.
How should Ovasitol best be taken?
Ovasitol can be mixed into any hot or cold beverage with the exception of carbonated soft drinks and alcohol. It is best taken along with a meal in two divided doses.
Does Ovasitol have side effects?
Overall, Ovasitol is well tolerated. We recommend starting with one dose a day with a meal for the first week to minimize any risk for a side effect. Inositol, at the dose found in Ovasitol, is not expected to cause stomach upset. However, if you do experience stomach upset, try taking Ovasitol with a meal. For example, mix one packet of Ovasitol into liquid and drink with your breakfast, and mix one packet of Ovasitol into liquid and drink along with your dinner. It’s also great in a smoothie. Ovasitol is a tasteless powder.

Is this something to take to help get pregnant or for PCOS in general?
Ovasitol can be taken by women who are trying to get pregnant and by those who are not trying. Research shows that inositol helps to improve fertility chances by regulating menstruation (monthly period) and improving ovulation. Inositol has also been shown to improve egg quality, which is important for women trying to get pregnant.
Why hasn’t my doctor heard of this?
Your doctor may or may not have heard about Ovasitol. Ovasitol is a myo- and d-chiro-inositol in the body’s naturally occurring ratio of 40 to 1. This inositol combination has been shown to be more beneficial than either form of inositol alone.
What if I don’t have insulin resistance? Will Ovasitol help me?
Ovasitol has been shown to restore hormone balance and regulate periods. Many women who take it find it helps reduce cravings. Other uses of Ovasitol are to help with acne and mood.
I’m not trying to get pregnant. Can I still take Ovasitol?
For women who are not trying to get pregnant, or older women who are past menopause, inositol has also been shown to lower insulin, testosterone, triglyceride, and blood pressure levels, and increase HDL (“good”) cholesterol levels. Many women who take Ovasitol also see a reduction in cravings for carbohydrate foods and sweets.
Can I give Ovasitol to my teenage daughter?
Yes, Ovasitol has been shown to be safe in children as young as 8 years of age. For many, taking Ovasitol can regulate periods, reducing the need to take birth control medications.
What makes Ovasitol so much better than other forms of inositol?
Ovasitol is unique in that it combines myo- and d-chiro-inositol in the body’s naturally occurring ratio of 40 to 1. This ideal ratio has been shown to work better than myo or d-chiro inositol alone. Too much d-chiro inositol has been shown to worsen egg quality. Ovasitol is pharmaceutical-grade and is the only inositol supplement to be independently tested by NSF International, a non-profit third party to assure purity and accuracy.
Why do the Ovasitol packets cost more than the canister?
The extra cost is due to the materials for the packets and the process of packaging the individual packets. Many people like the packets because they are easy to travel with or take on the go so you never miss a dose. Both contain a 3-month supply of Ovasitol.

Hi,
I posted a question on another post related to Ovasitol and I thought of another question.
Is there a possibility this supplement can cause weight gain? You describe the mechanism and enhancing insulin sensitivity…that would increase the amount of glucose that can enter cells. As seen with insulin injections in those with DM, can this promote weight gain?
Thank you
Angela Grassi

Ovasitol is not associated with weight gain.

Husband and I have been ttc for over a year with no success. After I came off the pill in April of 2018 my periods became funky and irregular. I skipped several periods and my Dr would put me on Provera to get my period. I am now on my 3rd round of clomid on a higher dose (1000 mg). I didn’t ovulate last cycle and progesterone levels were low. Getting an ultrasound on day 12 of this cycle to check my follicles. Would Ovasitol help me at all???? I also have endometriosis. Thanks in advance for your answer!

I am very excited to see the positive results!
But I do have a question – apart from pcos I suffer from anxiety, high blood pressure and migraines.
Would Ovasitol help with any of these?
Also, is it ok to take Ovasitol with:

4. Sertraline
Thank you very much in advance.
Best,

Thank you for your helpful website and info on Ovasitol. I’ve started and stopped this several times because of side effects. Each time I start it off, it seems to cause nausea/fatigue for me so I stop. Is this normal? I do take it with meals and have only started 1x day for the first week. Ovasitol is a sugar alcohol. Maybe try and stick to one dose for a month, with food to see if side effects improve.

Is it possible to take to much? I’m very new to this and wondering how this will affect my Insulin levels. My doctor gave me 2 options one was birth control the other he said was a pill used for Diabetes witch he told me he checked me for diabetes and I didn’t have them. So he said I could pick what one I wanted to take but he would recommend me not messing with my diabetes numbers. Could taking this be harmful?

I was on BC (implanon) for SEVEN years! I finally removed it this year in January- I had no period for 4 months after removing BC. I was diagnosed with PCOS in June.
Obgyn prescribed progesterone, started this in July and had a period. November came along and I lost excess amount of hair, my hair continues to fall out. I decided to not take anymore medication. Here we are in December and hair is still falling out.
Do you know of any other women experiencing this? I have ordered Ovasitol and hope it helps. I am desperate to know since I want to salvage as much hair.

Most birth control medications suppress testosterone. It is not unusual to see symptoms worsen if stopping birth control. I hope ovasitol works for you. Here are more tips on hair loss: https://www.pcosnutrition.com/hair-loss/

Hello,
I came off the pill last year and haven’t had a period. I have done a lot of research which says d-chiro inositol can be bad for egg quality on its on own. I have in the past only taken myo-inositol but discovered this combined inositol.
Can you confirm if this helps with ovulation and can be used for fertility and doesn’t effect the egg quality?
Angela Grassi
February 14, 2021 at 7:58 pm
Yes, Ovasitol has been shown to help improve ovulation and is great for helping to get pregnant. Very high doses of d-chiro inositol (over 600mg daily) has been linked with poor fertility. Ovasitol uses a ratio of myo to DCI in a 40:1 ratio to mimic levels in the body.

I wanted to comment too, because I asked the Theralogix support team, Ovasitol CAN be mixed into carbonated beverages, but just be careful because it can cause it to bubble and spill (think mentos and diet coke but way way way way way less). As long as it isn’t a full glass and you leave some room, it is fine. They said it doesn’t change the way the supplement works or anything, they just caution it for the potential mess.
Also, (of course consult your doctor as was stated above!) but just for anyone curious about the Ovasitol and Metformin together, I was taking Ovasitol long before I started the Metformin and for me they are totally fine together. The only time I noticed my stomach feeling a little off with the Ovasitol was when I accidentally took 2 doses one morning. Some people take their 2 doses together (some other Inositols also just have a higher dosage 1x/day) and have no problem with that too so it very much varies person-to-person like most supplements.
Example: I tried a Berberine, and it gave me horrible heart palpitations, it took me a week to realize that’s what it was, and then I tried a Magnesium/Calc/Zinc and it made me sick, like vertigo and weirdness very unpleasant–**neither of these were from this site**, but so many people have really good experiences with those supplements as alternatives to Metformin because of the potential for side effects (which I’ve been so very fortunate to actually respond really well to and not have much of any side effects), so it just goes to show how different people can be when it comes to this stuff.

I have a very important question. I will like information on Ovasitol for pcos women that already have hypoglycemia. Can it be used? I have used It and I can say my hypoglycemia is worst since I used ovasitol but I have more regular periods and less cramping. Please send me information on how to take ovasitol to avoid so many problems with low sugar due to ovasitol.
Angela Grassi
March 15, 2022 at 12:12 pm
Hi Karla, if you are experiencing hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), you may not need as much Ovasitol. You could try just taking one dose a day. Making sure you take it with a balanced meal, and have balanced meals throughout the day can also help.

I have suspected hypoglycemia. However, this product is too great to stop. Is it still safe to take with hypoglycemia? I only take 1 scoop a day, but I’ve heard prolonged use can make hypoglycemia worse. I want to be able to continue taking this product. I have suspected PCOS and endometriosis. Can I continue taking this product long-term? And can I still see good results with just 1 scoop a day?

I have just begun taking Ovasitol to assist with fertility (I haven’t been diagnosed PCOS) the last couple weeks and noticed some weight loss already…which is a bonus side effect but today I have noticed increased urination. Could this be due to a change in hormones or is this a common side effect when starting out? I am not set to have my period for another 8-10 days. Thanks so much!

Angela Grassi
July 3, 2022 at 10:19 am
Ovasitol is a sugar alcohol so it could cause bloating. We recommend starting very slow, half a dose a day for a week and slowly add in a full dose, dose and a half, until you can tolerate 2 full doses. taking it with food will also minimize side effects.

i see plenty of comments not to mix it into alcohol, but that it’s OK to consume alcohol at the same time. i mixed juice, a dropperful of a tincture (fairly low alcohol content, but made with half vodka/half distilled water as the base, plus honey and various herbs), magnesium carbonate, Ovasitol, and more water. Is that OK?

I started taking ovasitol about a month ago. I began experiencing stomach issues. Large amounts of gas, stomach rumbling. The appetite/craving suppression after about two weeks was amazing. However, the gas and stomach problems were so persistent (and I didn’t attribute them to the ovasitol) that I went to a gastro doctor. He suggested I stop taking it for a few days to see what happened. I stopped it and those stomach symptoms went away. I started again today and the symptoms returned. But, I feel great otherwise when taking the ovasitol.
My question is, is there anything I can take it with ,maybe a specific food, maybe a probiotic, that would reduce or eliminate these symptoms? Or are there foods I should avoid? I want to keep taking ovasitol but this is uncomfortable and embarrassing. Just for reference, I took one dose today and the symptoms returned. They don’t happen until my next meal after the supplement. Thanks for any suggestions!

Ovasitol is a sugar alcohol and can cause stomach upset. Some find taking digestive enzymes helpful when they take it. Others find mixing your ovasitol and sipping on it throughout the day helpful instead of all at once.

I have been taking this for 2 months. Previously I had very heavy and painful periods, lasting 6 days but they came regularly. After 6 weeks of ovasitol I’ve gotten a period and for the first time in a decade it was light and shorter. But then less than a week later I was bleeding again. Still light, sometimes just spotting but it’s not stopping. Has anyone experienced this?

Diagnosed with PCOS, after starting menopause prematurely, (by age 40). At age 53, now, with no period in 13 years, do I have to worry about the possibility of starting to menstruate, again, and getting pregnant (not TTC but still sexually active)). Would be taking Ovasitol for relief of other. PCOS-related symptoms….definitely don’t want to risk pregnancy nor go on BC, again.

No, Ovasitol will not cause you to have periods again. There are other supplements that can help with PCOS symptoms in menopause like Berberine,
NAC and Resveratrol. We do have a supplement quiz you can take to get matched with the right supplements based on your symptoms https://quiz.pcosnutrition.com/get-matched

Hi,
I have started taking Ovasitol for the first time in May after my doctor detecting PCOS.And then I got my period. As, I started taking it, for the 2nd month I got my heavy/normal periods twice in the same month (15th and 30th – 15 days apart) and after that, I see some spotting now continuously from 15th of this month (June) and still continuing.
I’m just wondering to know, if this is actually regulating my hormones or should I stop taking the supplement to stop this spotting and frequent periods.
I even consulted my gynic and he suggested that may continue to take it as my spotting could be a reason of hormonal changes/weight loss/stress.
Just worried that what if the spotting never stops and does this spotting leads lead to actual period in near future ?
Angela Grassi

It is recommended to take ovasitol regularly for 3 months for best benefit. We recommend taking with your doctor if periods arent regulated after that.

I have looked everywhere for this answer and can’t find it anywhere on the Internet. So my question is does Inositol break down and become less effective over time if mixed in a solution( water, tea, coffee, etc)? I want to know if I can mix it in a container of tea I drink throughout the week or if it loses its effectiveness after 24, 48, 72,etc hours.
Angela Grassi
August 10, 2023 at 2:12 pm
We don’t know. This hasn’t been studied. Our recommendation is not to put in big container but by the glass so you know exactly how much you are getting in and drink it within the hour.
